Brent Duncan, PhD

President/CEO and Founder

Prior to starting Syzygy, Dr. Duncan was a research scientist at the Duke University Medical Center and startup company BioGyali, where he successfully carried out the initial research and development as PI from a grant he authored. With a NIH Fellowship in the Duke University Center for Cellular and Biosurface Engineering, he received a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) focusing on Biomaterials. Building on his experience in research and interests in commercializing technology, he received a TI:GER Fellowship to pursue a MBA from the Georgia Institute of Technology. He also graduated summa cum laude from Michigan Technological University with a BS in MSE. He has worked short stints at GlaxoSmithKline, Georgia Tech Enterprise Innovation Institute, Johns Hopkins University, University of Virginia, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, and General Motors.


Walter Voit, PhD

Chief Technical Officer and Founder 

Dr. Voit obtained a PhD in MSE from Georgia Tech and is an assistant professor at UT Dallas. Before becoming a Presidential Fellow, TI:GER participant and doctoral candidate, Prof. Voit earned a Master’s degree in Artificial Intelligence and worked for almost three years with Dallas-based nanotechnology start-up Zyvex Corporation. Prof. Voit has multiple publications in well-regarded materials journals regarding his research in novel shape memory polymer processing. He is on the Executive Committee of the Council of Ionizing Radiation Measurement Standards and an International Atomic Energy Agency Expert in radiation crosslinking of polymers.


Taylor Ware

VP of Research and Development and Founder

Mr. Ware obtained a BS from Georgia Tech in MSE and was the recipient of the Hope Scholarship, the Presidents Undergraduate Research Award (Georgia Tech) and an NSF graduate fellowship (UT Dallas). Mr. Ware has worked for Syzygy part time since inception of the company and he will continue to work with us as a research scientist while pursuing a PhD at UT Dallas.


James Amato

Research Engineer

Mr. Amato obtained a BS from Georgia Tech in MSE and worked for startup Verco Materials before joining Syzygy in 2010. Mr. Amato utilizes his expertise as a materials engineer in the development, design, and implementation of the Mnemosynation process and its products. Mr. Amato specializes in CAD design and the product supply chain and has helped scale the manufacturing processes from the bench top toward our first commercial sale.
